The Key Bridge Foundation (KBF) provides mediation services nation-wide to resolve public accommodations
complaints under titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). KBF Center for Mediation
manages the ADA mediation program under a contract with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).
Since 1994, KBF Center for Mediation has handled nearly 1000 ADA complaints. KBF mediators successfully
resolve the majority of these cases. A successful resolution means that the settlement of the ADA dispute
is agreeable to all parties.
How Mediation Works
-
When an individual files a complaint under the ADA with the DOJ and agrees to mediate, the DOJ refers
the complaint to the Key Bridge Foundation.
-
KBF Center for Mediation manages a national roster of over five hundred professional mediators
who have received training on the requirements of the ADA.
-
Mediation under this program is free, voluntary, and confidential.
-
In mediation, parties, not the mediator, make decisions about the appropriate resolution of the dispute.
-
KBF Center for Mediation keeps a case open until implementation of the terms of the agreement
has been confirmed.
